Triple Spiral
The Triskele Approach to Wellbeing

"Health is a state of body, Wellness is a state of being."

The Triskele/Triple Spiral/Triskelion is a trilateral symbol of three interlocked spirals. Derived from the Greek word "Triskeles" meaning "three legs", the Triskele or Triple Spiral is a complex ancient Celtic symbol. Often referred to by many as a Triskelion, its earliest creation dates back to the Neolithic era.

The triskele can be thought to represent motion as all three arms are positioned to make it appear as if it is moving outwards from its center. Movement, or motion, is believed to signify energies, in particular within this Celtic Symbol the motion of action, cycles, progress, revolution and competition.

I first saw this symbol in Newgrange, Ireland. It is now the basis for my tri-focus approach to well-being - body, mind, and spirit

On the physical plane we have the body and all things of denser matter (e.g. food, clothing, shelter, medicine, nature etc). It is the literal, embodiment of the spirit and affects our physical functioning. The element is earth.

On the mental plane is cognitive abilities and processes. It is the mind and mental functionality. This is where our emotions, attitudes stem from and what drives our actions. The element is water.

On the spiritual plane we have soul related matters. It is what we em-body, the physical plane is where we express spirit. It is our light body. It is your god-spark. The element is air or ether.

The compass has 4 directions, and in wellness, I approach the following areas:

  • Breathing

  • Functional Movement

  • Hydration & Nutrition

  • Recovery

In my presentation, I discuss, in more depth the tri-focus approach in each of these areas. Becoming conscious of the body, mind, & spirit aspects that influence each of these areas. This is a more holistic approach to wellbeing.
