Your Body Remembers Everything You Forgot: Understanding the Science of Somatic Stress and Real Healing

There’s a quiet truth most people never learn: your body remembers everything your mind rushes past.
The mind moves on quickly; it rationalises, reframes, distracts.
The body doesn’t. It stores tension patterns, breathing habits, gut responses and emotional imprints long after an experience ends. This is known as somatic memory. It’s the nervous system’s way of staying prepared, even when the threat is long gone.
And this is often the missing link in wellbeing.
People wonder why they feel tired, anxious, heavy, inflamed, reactive or “not themselves.” They blame age, work, hormones, or lack of discipline. But when the nervous system is stuck in an old survival loop, the body can’t access balance - no matter how many “healthy habits” you try to add.
Here’s how these memories show up:
• Breath becomes shallow during prolonged stress
• Gut health shifts when the body stays in defence mode
• Muscles hold chronic tension from unprocessed emotion
• Sleep becomes light and fragmented
• Energy fades because the system stays on alert
• Mindset narrows into overthinking or self-doubt
Nothing is “wrong” with you.
Your system is simply adapting to what it has lived through.
This is why my ABC + Compass to Wellness approach works so deeply:
A - Abolish what drains you.
We remove the internal and external stressors: toxins, parasites, chronic inflammation, emotional pressure, negative self-talk, destructive patterns and toxic relationships/situations.
B - Balance what sustains you.
Hydration, whole-food nourishment, nervous-system-friendly movement, sleep rhythm, breathwork and rituals that support physiological balance.
C - Control what overwhelms you.
Breath regulation, boundaries, emotional awareness, mindset support, coaching, nervous system reset tools.
Only when all three are addressed does the body feel safe enough to let go of what it has been holding.
Healing begins when the body stops bracing.
Your wellbeing isn’t built through force; it’s built through presence, understanding and consistent daily choices that honour the whole human (body, mind and energy) rather than treating symptoms in isolation.
If you’re ready to get back to yourself and rebuild your internal balance, I’m here to guide you.
