The Math of a True Holistic Massage

The Truth About Appointment Time vs. Treatment Time: Why Every Minute Counts at Nicci B Wellness

As a holistic massage provider with 20 years of experience—having worked for both myself and others—I’ve always struggled with a common industry myth:

the confusion between appointment time and treatment time.

I once worked with a chiropractor who allowed for 60-minute appointments. In that window, I was expected to:

  • Greet the client, do a quick consultation and assessment

  • Allow time for them to undress and settle onto the treatment bed

  • Perform the treatment service

  • Wrap up the session and provide post-care advice

  • Give the client time to dress and re-enter the real world

  • Book the next appointment and complete my SOAP notes

If you do the math, it simply doesn’t make sense.

It is practically impossible to deliver a high-quality, results-driven massage and fit all these necessary administrative and transition steps into a single hour.

The Math of a True Holistic Massage

When a client comes in, they bring a variety of soft tissue issues, and people come in all shapes and sizes.

To deliver real, compounding benefits, a treatment cannot be a "tickle and a promise."

At Nicci B Wellness, a full-body holistic session is a carefully orchestrated sequence. Here is how that time is effectively spent:

  • Feet: 10 mins using reflexology modalities

  • Legs: 15 mins each (both back and front)

  • Back: 10 mins per section (lower incl. glutes, middle incl. spine, upper incl. tension triangle)

  • Arms: 5 mins each

  • Hands: 5 mins for both using reflexology

  • Neck and Upper Shoulders: 10 mins

  • Head & Face: Focus on TMJ and ear reflexology

To do this justice, I need to spend time applying the correct selection of techniques—addressing trigger points, fascia release, muscle tension, and relaxing the nervous system.

Yes, massage can be purely for relaxation, but while you are already on the table, why not use that time to actively address your body's discomfort and imbalances?

I believe in integrating as many targeted techniques as possible during your treatment to promote true harmony within the body.

My Promise to You

This is why at Nicci B Wellness, the time you see advertised is your treatment time—meaning that is exactly how long I will spend physically working on you.

Your overall appointment time will be about 20-30 minutes longer, which is why I leave a 30-minute buffer between every single client.

This structure ensures:

  • You have the time to ease into your session without feeling rushed

  • Ample time is dedicated to your results-driven treatment

  • You have unhurried recovery time after the massage to discuss a viable treatment plan and home care recommendations
